The CO-OP tractor brand emerged from a unique cooperative movement in the agricultural sector during the early 20th century. Founded in the 1930s, CO-OP tractors were conceived as a collaborative effort by farmers seeking affordable machinery through collective ownership and production. The brand's early models were designed by Dent Parrett, a former engineer from Parrett Tractor, and incorporated components from Chrysler, reflecting a pragmatic approach to manufacturing. Production initially took place in Michigan, but in 1938, the operation relocated to Indiana, signaling a period of growth and expansion. The brand's portfolio was further enriched by contributions from Cletrac, with some production also occurring in Saint Paul, Minnesota. A significant development came after World War II when CO-OP entered into an agreement with Cockshutt, leading to the introduction of the 'E' series tractors, which were essentially rebranded Cockshutt models. Despite these efforts, CO-OP faced challenges in the marketplace, and by 1952, the brand's facilities were sold to Cockshutt due to poor sales performance. This marked the end of the CO-OP tractor brand, which was subsequently discontinued.
