Centaur Tractors & Lineup
Centaur Tractor Company, originally founded as Central Tractor Company in 1921 in Greenwich, Ohio, was a pioneering American tractor manufacturer that made significant contributions to tractor design during the early 20th century. The company adopted the name 'Centaur' in 1928, inspired by its popular 6-10 sulky-style tractor model. One of Centaur's most notable innovations was the 'Klear View' design, patented in 1934, which revolutionized tractor visibility by eliminating obstructions under the operator and providing an unobstructed view of the ground beneath the tractor. This groundbreaking design was implemented in the KV series tractors, which began production in 1935 and became a hallmark of the brand. Despite its innovative spirit, Centaur faced significant financial challenges, culminating in the company being sold to Le Roi in 1940. Le Roi, a supplier of engines for Centaur tractors, acquired the company to address its debt issues and continue production under new ownership.
