IMT Tractors & Lineup
Industriya Masina i Traktoru (IMT) was a prominent Serbian tractor manufacturer with a rich history in agricultural machinery production. Founded in 1947 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, the company initially focused on industrial machinery before expanding into tractor manufacturing. A significant milestone in IMT's early history was its licensing agreement with Massey Ferguson in 1955, which allowed the company to produce Massey Ferguson tractors under license. This partnership provided IMT with the technological expertise and design principles that helped establish its reputation in the agricultural sector. By the 1970s and 1980s, IMT had grown into one of the region's leading tractor manufacturers, with a diverse range of models that served both domestic and international markets. However, the company faced significant challenges in the post-Yugoslav era, particularly during the economic turmoil of the 1990s. Despite efforts to modernize and adapt, IMT struggled to maintain its market position in the face of increasing competition and economic pressures. The company ceased production in 2015 after years of declining sales and financial difficulties. In 2018, the IMT brand was acquired by TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited), an Indian tractor manufacturer, signaling a new chapter for the historic brand. While IMT no longer produces tractors, its legacy lives on through its contributions to agricultural machinery development in Southeastern Europe and its influence on the region's farming practices.
