SOMECA Tractors & Lineup
SOMECA, short for La Societe de Mecanique de la Seine, was a significant player in the agricultural machinery industry with roots tracing back to the 1950s. Originally established as a subsidiary of the French automobile manufacturer SIMCA, SOMECA's early success was built on the acquisition of MAP and its innovative two-stroke diesel engine technology. This strategic move positioned SOMECA as a key manufacturer of compact and efficient tractors that were well-suited to the needs of European farmers. In the 1960s, SOMECA came under the control of Fiat, the Italian automotive giant, which acquired a majority stake in the company. This partnership allowed SOMECA to integrate its product line with Fiat's extensive agricultural machinery division. The collaboration resulted in the production of a range of tractors and agricultural equipment that combined SOMECA's engineering expertise with Fiat's manufacturing capabilities. However, by 1983, SOMECA's identity as a separate brand was phased out as it was fully absorbed into FiatAgri, Fiat's agricultural machinery division. This marked the end of SOMECA as an independent brand, but its legacy lived on through the continued production of its tractor models under the FiatAgri banner.
