County

County was a pioneering British engineering company renowned for its innovative tractor conversions, particularly in the realm of four-wheel drive technology. Founded in 1929 by brothers Ernest and Percy Tapp, the company initially focused on converting Ford trucks from two-wheel to four-wheel drive configurations. This expertise in drivetrain enhancements laid the groundwork for their later success in the agricultural sector. In 1948, County made its first foray into tractor conversions by transforming a Fordson Major into a track-driven machine, showcasing their ability to adapt and enhance existing machinery. The 1960s and 1970s marked the peak of County's prominence as they became celebrated for their four-wheel drive conversions of Ford tractors. These conversions significantly improved the performance and versatility of standard tractors, making them highly sought after in demanding agricultural and industrial applications. However, the 1980s brought challenging times for County, as the company faced financial difficulties amidst a changing market landscape. In 1983, County was acquired, and by 1987, its production had dwindled significantly, leading to its eventual decline.
