Eicher is a storied brand with roots in both German and Indian manufacturing heritage. The original Eicher company was founded in Germany in 1930, establishing itself as a pioneering manufacturer of agricultural tractors. The brand made its mark with innovative engineering and reliable machinery, gaining a reputation for quality in the European market. In 1959, Eicher expanded its footprint by establishing Eicher Tractors in India, recognizing the potential of the burgeoning agricultural sector in the country. This strategic move allowed Eicher to tap into the Indian market's demand for affordable and robust farming equipment. However, the German arm of Eicher faced financial turmoil beginning in the 1970s, leading to a series of ownership changes before it ultimately ceased operations in 2006. Despite these challenges, Eicher (India) thrived and continued to produce tractors, building on the legacy of its German counterpart. In 2005, the Indian tractor division was acquired by TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited), one of India's largest tractor manufacturers. This acquisition allowed Eicher to leverage TAFE's extensive resources and distribution network, ensuring its continued presence in the Indian market. Today, while the Eicher brand is primarily associated with commercial vehicles and motorcycles through Eicher Motors Limited, its tractor division remains a vital part of TAFE's portfolio, continuing to serve the agricultural community with dependable machinery.
