Thieman Harvester was a pioneering farm equipment manufacturer founded in Albert City, Iowa, by the Thieman brothers. The company gained recognition in the 1930s for its innovative kit tractor, which offered an affordable solution for farmers during the Great Depression. This kit tractor, produced from 1936 until World War II, was designed to be assembled using readily available components, with the Ford Model A engine and driveline being the recommended configuration. This approach allowed farmers to save costs by using their own materials for parts of the tractor, making it an attractive option for cost-conscious agricultural operations. However, Thieman Harvester's production was halted in 1942 due to the steel shortages caused by World War II, which marked the end of the company's manufacturing operations. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Thieman Harvester left a lasting impact on the agricultural industry by demonstrating the potential of kit-based machinery and providing an economical alternative for farmers during a period of economic hardship.
